What an awesome day we had yesterday at our cross country! A huge shoutout to all our tamariki for the amazing effort and resilience they showed—every single one gave it a go, and we saw some great running, smiling faces, and awesome sportsmanship. Even with 22% of our school away, the house chants were still loud, proud, and full of energy! The vibe was fun, supportive, and full of Matangi spirit.
We’re so proud of everyone who took part—ka pai, tamariki mā!
Thank you parents for the supporting the school staff to attend the NZEI meeting in the afternoon. It was very appreciated that the team could all be there together.
One last thing. I want to welcome Sarah Godsall back to school. We have missed her and we are so pleased to have her back as our amazing Deputy Principal.

Wednesday 27th August - Cluster Speech Finals at Tauwhare School 4pm
We’re excited to welcome everyone to our upcoming Book Fair, starting on Monday, 25th August.
We have been unable to host a book fair for two years due to lack of space - so we are super excited to be able to bring this back to Matangi School this year.
Book Fair open hours:
Monday to Thursday 8am - 9am
Monday to Wednesday 2:50pm - 3:20pm
WHAT IS A BOOK FAIR?
A Scholastic Book Fair is a pop-up bookshop organised by Scholastic, a global children’s publishing company, held in schools to encourage a love of reading among children by giving them access to a wide range of affordable books - from picture books to chapter books, graphic novels, nonfiction, and popular series.
How it works:
-
Books and educational items are set up on display in Kōwhai Hub - the classroom next to the pump track.
-
Students will visit the Book Fair with their teacher and fill out a “Favourite Books” form to help guide their choices. This gives parents insight into what caught their child’s interest.
- Parents and carers are invited to browse the Book Fair with their child. Purchases can be made during regular Book Fair open hours, or at our special community events
- Snug as a Bug in a Rug, Monday 6 - 7pm
- Grandparents & Special Persons Day, Wednesday 9am -11am
-
A portion of the sales goes back to the school either as credit for free books or as fundraising money towards buying new books for the library.
Matangi Grandparents Day / Book Character Dress-up Day - Wednesday 27th August 9am
Grandparents/Special Person Day & Book Character Dress Up Day is on Wednesday 27th August - 9.00am
This is a special time when all grandparents or special people are invited to come along and watch the dress-up parade, have the opportunity to view students' learning environments and enjoy morning tea.
Children can dress up in any character from a book, movie or comic… get your thinking caps on!
Book Fair is back and will be held in the Kowhai hub.
We are looking forward to seeing you.

Matangi School Ag Day on Wednesday 8th October
WHAT IS AGRICULTURAL DAY?
Ag Day for those new to Matangi School is a great event to get involved in. Every year we invite students to raise a Calf, Lamb or Kid Goat, look after it, groom and train it ready for bringing to Ag Day. Students learn about caring for their animals, develop patience and determination, use initiative and self-reliance and gain a better understanding of animal welfare.
Rearing your own animal is a very special opportunity, and a very close bond can develop between animal and child. Our children learn valuable life skills through raising an animal and the Ag Day process, such as; caring, nurturing, animal health and welfare, responsibility, leadership, confidence, project presentation (through diaries and performance to the judges), patience and resilience (especially if it’s a wet day!).
- Attached is Calf, Lamb & Kid Goat rearing information
- Ag Day Entry form which needs to completed and handed to office.
