Board of Trustees - 2025 School Board Elections
Our School Board triennial election will take place in September 2025. This year, the process will be conducted fully online, this includes both the nomination and election processes. Please watch out for emails from the returning officer to check that your contact details are correct and Call for Nominations.
Matangi School will be looking to appoint five trustees as parent representatives, through the upcoming election processes. Please start thinking about whether this is a role you may be interested in, or if you know of someone who you could nominate, that would be suitable and has skills that could positively support the school.
- Call for Nominations via email Friday 18th July
- Nominations Close at 12 noon on Wednesday 6th August
- If there are more nominations than vacancies for parent representatives, a electronic voting election will be held. Eligible voters will be issued voting papers and candidate statements, on or before Wednesday 13th August.
- Election Day Wednesday 10th September
- Board Takes Office on Wednesday 17th September
More information about the role of Boards in schools can be found here or you can email office@matangi.school.nz with any questions

Grandparents/Special Person Day & Book Character Dress Up Day is on Wednesday 27th August - 9.00am
This is a special time when all grandparents or special people are invited to come along and watch the dress-up parade, have the opportunity to view students' learning environments and enjoy morning tea.
Children can dress up in any character from a book, movie or comic… get your thinking caps on!
Book Fair is back and will be held in the Kowhai hub.
We are looking forward to seeing you.
We have an exciting new opportunity as part of Book Week this year: A Children's Literature Quiz.
This will be held during lunchtimes on Tuesday 26th - Wednesday 27th August. Each house can enter teams of 4 people (a mixture of Years 3-6, as many teams as they like) and will earn house points for participation and the winning team will receive extra points.
I have attached a reading list of the books that the questions have been drawn from and placed posters of these up around the school to promote reading in anticipation. The aim of this event is to promote reading and a love of books.

Matangi School Ag Day on Wednesday 8th October
WHAT IS AGRICULTURAL DAY?
Ag Day for those new to Matangi School is a great event to get involved in. Every year we invite students to raise a Calf, Lamb or Kid Goat, look after it, groom and train it ready for bringing to Ag Day. Students learn about caring for their animals, develop patience and determination, use initiative and self-reliance and gain a better understanding of animal welfare.
Rearing your own animal is a very special opportunity, and a very close bond can develop between animal and child. Our children learn valuable life skills through raising an animal and the Ag Day process, such as; caring, nurturing, animal health and welfare, responsibility, leadership, confidence, project presentation (through diaries and performance to the judges), patience and resilience (especially if it’s a wet day!).
- Attached is Calf, Lamb & Kid Goat rearing information
- Ag Day Entry form which needs to completed and handed to office.
